FreeWire
P2P - About Us
FreeWire P2P was established in
2002 with the goal of expanding on the open source (GPL'ed) Gnutella
code base of LimeWire, arguably the most popular Gnutella client
available. Seeking to create a fast, cutting edge and banner-ad
free client, we have been developing FreeWire as an alternative
to LimeWire. As per the GNU GPL that LimeWire is licensed under,
our developments will be open source- published freely to developers
wishing to improve upon existing Gnutella standards as we are
trying to do. Check out our developers section for info
on obtaining the source code to FreeWire.
About FreeWire
FreeWire is an open source project released under the GNU
General Public License. It's source code is free and was adapted
from LimeWire's. Using the Gnutella protocol to connect millions
of file sharing users across the world, this Java application
is an ongoing project aimed at advancing peer-to-peer technology.
FreeWire currently supports Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP (other
platforms coming soon) running with the required Sun Java Runtime
Environment. FreeWire allows users to share any type of file,
and supports the most up to date Gnutella standards.
